About Surrender
Surrendering or letting go was everything I had to do to appreciate the beautiful dysfunction that was India in 2011-12. The title of this 2013 exhibition also describes my experiences pre- and post- India—getting married, going on this adventure, and returning to the United States within a disintegrating marriage. Within this adventure and upon my return home, I let go of what I thought was familiar to embrace new and sometimes uncomfortable realities. The act of surrender became a practice and meditation.
These photographs are just a few of the 12,000 pictures that were taken to capture everyday life and quirky moments throughout Northern and Southern India. Some of these featured photos were not in the original exhibit.
