Foodstories Wants Your Art

Taking submissions until Monday, July 1
for a digital - online exhibition of Foodstories focused on the intersection between food, memory, and storytelling.

We invite you to submit any visual art, film shorts, animations, audio, and creative writing pieces for consideration. Get creative and think about any and every option to submit your work for the
digital exhibition. If selected, your work will be featured on a 2-year site dedicated to the Foodstories project.

Submit Visual Art

You can submit up to 5 hi - res images that include, but not limited to:

Photography

Painting, drawing, etching, comic strip

Mixed media

*Any kind of visual art as long as it is captured as a hi-res image that brings together food, memory, and storytelling in some way.*



Submit audio, film shorts, or animation


A high-quality audio no longer than 10 minutes

A link to a film short or animation that can be viewed by the public

*You can submit up to 5 audio pieces or links for consideration*


As long as what you submit brings together food, memory, and storytelling in some way. You can submit up to five choices within your submission.

Submit Creative Writing

Do you have a flash fiction or non-fiction piece that brings together food, memory, and storytelling?

Do you have a poem (in any form) that brings together these themes?

Perhaps you want to write an open letter engaging the themes of food, memory, and storytelling.

If the answer is yes to either of these questions, we encourage you to submit. Here are the rules and what you can submit:

-MICROFICTION OR MICRO NON-FICTION
For this category, the piece must be anywhere between 6 to 250 words.

-FLASH FICTION OR FLASH NON-FICTION
For this category, the piece must be anywhere between 350 - 700 words.

-POEM OR PROSE POETRY
For this category, the poem can be in any form - a concrete poem, ekphrastic, any form - and must be no longer than 2 pages.


OTHER THINGS TO KNOW:

-You can submit up to 5 pieces

-The pieces can be previously published [you must have the rights or permissions to be able to re-publish/re-share]



WHAT CAN I SUBMIT AND HOW MANY PIECES?

You can submit anything visual, a film short, animation, audio clip, or a creative writing piece. Whatever you submit must be your original work. You can submit anything as long as you are bringing together the themes of food, memory and storytelling in some way. If your submission does not follow the instructions in terms of quality and length, it will not be considered for inclusion in the digital exhibition. You can submit up to 5 items and you are more than welcome to mix and match. For example, if you wanted to submit a combination of audio, writing, and visual art, you are more than welcome to do that!


WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE DEADLINE OF JULY 1 AND HOW WILL THE SELECTIONS BE MADE?

After artists submit their work, they will be notified by Friday, August 29 about the status of your submission.
Decisions about the work will be made by a small committee of artists and creatives based on two categories: quality of the work submitted and your creative approach in bringing together the themes of food, memory, and storytelling.


HOW IS "MEMORY" BEING DEFINED?

Memory can be anything from something as recent as last week, last month, the previous year OR you may decide to connect
with something from an earlier time in your life. Memory is however you want to engage with it as long as you bring it together with the other themes of food and storytelling.
